Statement on COVID-19

16 March, 2020

Metigoshe Ministries is committed to the health and safety of all those who share in our Adventure Anchored in Christ: retreaters, campers, staff and board members. We realize the heightened levels of anxiety and real concern that so many are experiencing right now in relation to the COVID-19 pandemic, and want to share details of how Metighose is responding.

Staff members are keeping in regular contact with a variety of sources: local First Disctrict Health Department officials; North Dakota State Department of Health; CDC recommendations. We are also speaking with the American Camping Association, our insurance company and joining in online conversations with other camps through the Lutheran Outdoor Ministry network. Finally, we are in regular conversation with both our summer on-call physician, Dr. Brian Selland (Rugby) and summer camp head nurse, Lynn Johnson RN (Kenmare).

Based upon all the information and recommendations that have been shared with us, Metigoshe Ministries will remain open at this time.

We will continue to monitor all relevant information as it is shared and updated from the appropriate sources. As the situation evolves our response will change to best fit our local situation, and to maintain the best interests of our guests’ and staff health.

With our decision to remain open, a number of additional health and sanitation protocols are being put in place as we seek to best care for the health of those who choose to come and retreat. Likewise, some of our usual hospitality pieces will look slightly different (we promise: the cookie jar will return as soon as possible!).

We do ask that all potential guests use their best judgement in determining whether to come and retreat with us. If you are not feeling well, please stay home. If you are overly anxious and don’t think that you will enjoy your time – we understand – and we encourage you to change your reservation.

For the time being, Metigoshe is making any and all reservations and pre-paid retreat fees fully refundable – for any reason. We’d love it if you would considering using your deposit toward a future retreat, but will completely understand if you prefer a refund.

You will notice that this statement is focused almost exclusively on our retreat ministry. Please know, we are also working on contingency plans for summer at Camp Metigoshe as well as our June trip to Norway. As of today, both of those things are continuing as scheduled. As that time draws closer – and as it becomes necessary – we will share more details.

Remember, “No One is an Island.” In these uncertain and anxious times, “we need one another.” For those confined to their homes: tune in to our Camp Metigoshe Facebook page in the coming weeks, as we will be sharing daily “Camp Connections” to help fill your days.
