What are some of my favorite phrases to hear you ask? Great question, I’d love to tell you! They would be “Climbing? CLIMB ON!” Why you ask? Another great question! First of all, I would climb anything and everything if I could. I seek out heights and an adrenaline boost any chance that I can get. Second, I have gotten to watch people overcome challenges over and over again when standing at the base of our high ropes course. Wow, is it inspiring every single time.
When I was a camper, my friend who went to Metigoshe had leg braces and was determined to climb the rock wall with the rest of us. He could have quit halfway and said he did as much as he could, but he kept going. He refused to give up through his own challenges and the rest of the group there learned true patience and encouragement of one another.
During family weekend while I was on summer staff, my own mom (who is absolutely terrified of heights) wanted to try the zipline element out. She kept letting other people go ahead of her. Finally, an hour and a half had passed and she would either go or she’d stay firmly planted on the ground. So many other parents and strangers there kept pouring words of encouragement into her and she got the courage to go.
I also got to watch as one of my campers in a wheel chair was able to do the high ropes course and I cry tears of joy every single time I imagine her face. She was overwhelmed with excitement as what she once thought was a limitation for her was lifted.
The words “Climbing? CLIMB ON!” is the beginning phrase that lets us know each participant is ready to start their high ropes challenge. Those words, to me, represent limitations have been lifted and so many people are excited to see you complete your goal.
