Back to Camp Metigoshe

Is your heart at Metigoshe?

Hello friends, family and alumni of Camp Metigoshe!

Here are a few updates from Camp Metigoshe at Pelican Lake from the programmatic staff and counselors.

We wrapped up a wonderful first week with our campers last Friday, and were so excited to welcome home our second batch on Sunday. Cookies and lemonade: check!

As we continue with high spirits and energy through this week, please keep good health and sunny weather in your prayers as we spend our time in summer ministry and play with Pioneers, Discoverers, Seek Weekers, Grandparent Campers, and Day Campers.

In order to take the edge off our impatient excitement for the arrival of our campers on weekends, our lovely program director Melissa leads a fun tradition where the parents of our counselors send in notes of blessing and childhood stories (along with humorous pictures!) to read aloud and share with our staff. Most involve tales of when counselors were young and attending camp themselves.

This week, I wanted to share a poem with you that one of our counselors, Ms. Claire Benson, wrote when she was in 10th grade and dreaming about her summer days as a camper at Metigoshe. We hope you enjoy her poetic talents as much as our camp family did!

My Heart’s at Metigoshe

By Claire, 10th Grade

My heart’s at Metigoshe, my heart is not here.

My heart’s at Metigoshe, singing with cheer.

Meeting new people, making new friends.

My heart’s at Metigoshe, where joy never ends.

Farewell Metigoshe, the summer is done.

School will start soon, the summer will be gone.

All year I will miss it, I’ll want to be there.

There’s nothing else like it, not anywhere near.

Farewell to the chapel, farewell to the lake.

Farewell to the woods, in which there might be a snake.

Farewell to the outhouse, farewell adventure course.

And all of the activities that made us so close.

My heart’s at Metigoshe, my heart is not near.

My heart’s at Metigoshe, singing with cheer.

Meeting new people, making new friends.

My heart’s at Metigoshe, where joy never ends.

Is your heart at Metigoshe? Do you have any creative writing, drawing, poems or tales to share with us from your days at Camp Metigoshe? Email your artistic talents to Program@MetigosheMinistries.com and we will share them with our followers!
